Trelegy Ellipta Inhaler

Trelegy Ellipta brings together three medications from complementary drug classes into a single daily inhaler. It contains the active drugs fluticasone, umeclidinium, and vilanterol, representing an inhaled corticosteroid, a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (anticholinergic), and a long-acting beta-agonist working together to reduce inflammation, relax airway muscles, and improve overall airflow. Fluticasone Furoate helps calm inflammation within the airways, Umeclidinium Bromide helps keep the airways relaxed and open by blocking specific nerve signals, and Vilanterol Trifenatate provides longer-acting relaxation of the surrounding airway muscles. It is FDA-approved for use in adults to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, offering comprehensive, once-daily maintenance therapy for both conditions. It is not approved for use as a rescue inhaler to ease sudden breathing problems, so it is intended for regular, ongoing symptom control rather than immediate relief. The inhaler is a convenient dry powder device, with the recommended dosage being one inhalation once each day, ideally taken at the same time each day. Rinsing the mouth with water and spitting it out without swallowing after each dose is recommended, which may help decrease the risk of oral thrush, a possible side effect of the inhaled steroid component. Many patients experience meaningful improvement in breathing and reduced flare-ups with consistent daily use.
